"The image is that of a cube suspended above a cylinder. The space of the church is generated from the tension between these volumes. The two primary volumes actually conceal a great internal complexity created by the juxtaposition of various geometrical planes. The overhead lighting from the perimeter of the square roof highlights the elementary form of the skin. The side lighting, on the other hand, is transformed into a wall of light in the great arch of the choir thanks to the transparent onyx slabs shaping a tree as the backdrop to the nave".
