“When Niki de Saint Phalle asked me to collaborate on building Noah’s Ark to be inserted in a park, I enthusiastically accepted her invitation. It led me to think of a negative sign almost as if the ark was present as a petrified impression left as a sediment in the green plane of the park. To be built in Jerusalem stone, the structure is part of a play facility for children. Outside, they will find the highly colored animal sculptures modeled by Niki de Saint Phalle. The underground spaces of the Ark and the internal cavities of the sculptures create a suitably reduced scale for which the project was conceived.”
