"The attention given to this house is fuit of my reflection on the relationship between a dwelling and its sorroundings. In this case, that relationship shows the ambiguities inherent in separating an urban zone from a rural one. The house is adapted to this ambiguity: on one side it is a presence capable of defining a street corner, and on the other side it aims to present elements derived from the rural building tradition, with a loggia and elevated belvedere. From this viewpoint, this house is very different from homes I designed in the 1970s, which addressed far better defined and more limited problems. The interesting aspect of this new house, it seems to me, lies in the willingness it demonstrates to bring together and, if possible, comment on the modofications our land has undergone, where the frontiers between urban and rural becomes increasingly uncertain."
